Altea Nuñez
Altea Nuñez Ballet Mistress / Choreographer

After completing her formative dance training at the distinguished Victor Ullate school in Madrid, Altea Nuñez graduated with distinction from the Conservatoire of The Hague in Holland.

Her professional dance career began with three years spent in the Victor Ullate company. In 2001 she joined the Royal Ballet of Flanders where she worked under artistic directors Robert Devers, Kathryn Bennetts and Assis Carreiro. As first soloist Altea danced practically all the principal roles in the classical and neo-classical repertoire, working with top choreographers such as William Forsythe, Marcia Haydée, David Dawson, Jiri Kylian, Wayne McGregor and many others.

During that period (2001-2010 ) Altea performed with ‘Teresa Nieto and Company’ in Madrid as well as in International Gala performances in Madrid, California and New York.

Altea bid farewell to Ballet of Flanders in 2013 to concentrate on choreography. Her debut was greeted with the immediate success of her first work ‘Contigo’ (2013) created for Coupe Maison, the Ballet of Flanders’ choreographic platform. As a result she was invited in 2014 as guest choreographer to choreograph a new piece, entitled ‘Claroscuro’ for the dancers of the company. At the invitation of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Tamas Moricz an extended version was repeated the following year for the company’s Choreolab platform.

Marcia Hayfdée invited Altea to rework ‘Claroscuro’ for the Santiago Ballet of Chile where it had it’s South American premiere as part of the Choreographic Festival in 2016.

Other recent works are ‘Absolutio’ originally created for the final year students of the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp and later repeated for the Compañia Nacional de Danza of Spain in their 2018 program ‘A la Carta’; and ‘Stardust’ which had it’s premiere in Antwerp and was later performed by the Palucca School of Dance in Dresden in 2019.

For Danzarte 21- Ballet Joven de Murcia Altea created ‘For those who wait’ and in the same year her dynamic piece ‘YU’ for 13 male dancers of the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp went in premiere.
Altea has in the meantime choreographed for the Professional Conservatoires of Madrid and Barcelona as well as for the Kunsthumaniora of Antwerp. Her creations were to be seen at International Gala performances in Argentina, Italy, Spain, France and Cyprus.

Since 2009 Altea has taught classical ballet, choreographic workshops as well as done private coaching at Dansstudio Arabesque (Antwerp) and since 2017 she has taught classical ballet at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. As guest teacher she has many times taught and choreographed for International dance stages including those for Dansstudio Arabesque, Jeugd en Dans and the Kunsthumaniora, Antwerp.

Altea became a member of ‘Dansaires & Art’ in Spain in 2014.

In 2019 she was appointed Artistic Assistant of the Junior Ballet Antwerp for which she created the section ‘Summer’ for their production ‘Seasons 4.0’.
