JAMES

Mauro de Candia’s imaginative and theatrical creation JAMES is not a narrative portrait of the extraordinary artist/painter James Ensor. Instead it depicts in a series of balletic tableaux that which influenced this great avant-garde Belgian in his search for artistic truth. Drawn into the process is one of JBA’s favourite collaborators, Julie Coppens who made the incredible masks, depicting characters chosen from Ensor paintings.
A hybrid and deeply-nuanced mixture of art, music, dance and atmospheric lighting, JAMES is lauded by critics and public alike, touring to many venues in the country during the 75th anniversary year of the artist’s passing.
