INÈS VALET

Ines is one of our two French Juniors and comes from Brive-la-Gaillarde in the South-West of France where she grew up and at the age of 4, fell in love with ballet after seeing a local performance. She soon entered the Conservatoire Régional du Grand Avignon, combining school studies and dance. After graduating there, she joinedPAR en Dansa in Barcelona, training for two years.

Ines has been interested in Junior Ballet Antwerp for a while and was aware of the high level of the dancers and the different productions JBA offered.

Inès: “The first time I auditioned for JBA, my application was not accepted which made me understand that I was still too young and inexperienced. I then went on to spending time in Barcelona, studying with a few Cuban teachers who helped in strengthening my technique. As a result, after auditioning again for JBA at the age of 19, I was accepted.”

Inès’ favourite companies are the Paris Opera Ballet, London’s Royal Ballet, Semperoper Ballett and Dutch National Ballet (Amsterdam) but realises these are perhaps unreachable dreams. She feels however strongly that being part of a good company, one whose repertoire offers both classical and modern works, would be a wonderful start!

She greatly admires choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, David Dawson and William Forsythe who’s ballet ‘Blake Works’ is packed with speed and rapid movement, continuing to expand and enrich the boundary of classical ballet.

Apart from her dancing, Ines’ hobbies lie with reading and drawing and enjoying seeing more of our northern cities.
