Jiyhe Shin

Born in Seoul, Jihye has South Korean nationality and Korea is where she started dancing locally at the age of 6. When she was accepted to take part in the Prix de Lausanne in 2021, the Boston Ballet School offered her a scholarship, which is how she came to study in America.
In Boston she trained in the Professional division for 3 years before following their year long graduate program.
Later in 2024, during a summer course in Prague, she met a JBA alumni who recommended the Antwerp program which lead to her audition.

Jihye: “I think the JBA program will lift me out of my comfort zone and I am sure that I will mature technically. Even though I have just joined, I already find the work environment very healthy and I know I will learn a great deal here.”

Jihye loves the repertoire of English National Ballet and in particular the ballets of William Forsythe. She was able to learn some of the choreographer’s style in Boston with Noah Gelber. What she loves about Forsythe’s work is the energy and dynamics in the movement – his hallmark.

Her favorite ballet is The Season’s Canon by Crystal Pite which she discovered during her training when Pite was in the process of putting the ballet together.

Her outside interests, apart from dancing, have always tended toward fashion and it has always influenced and inspired her lifestyle. For Jihye, it’s not just the clothes themselves but the marketing and management side as well. Who knows how she might combine these diverse elements in the future?
