MARIA CORDERO

María was born in Mexico city, which is where she started dancing locally at the tender age of 3. By the time she turned 13 she realised she loved ballet enough to want to make it her career. Encouraged by her parents, she moved to Washington D.C to train at the Kirov Ballet Academy for two years. Then she returned to Guadalajara (Mexico) to study with Hector Hernández, during which time she felt that she developed both technically and artistically. From here her path led her to the English National Ballet trainee program, from where she graduated in 2024.

Maria chose to audition for JBA for various reasons.

María: “I was drawn by the teachers’ compassionate approach and dedication, their enthusiasm and humane manner for helping young dancers to develop. The performance opportunities and valuable experience on offer at Junior Ballet Antwerp were compelling factors.”

María hopes during her time with JBA to become more versatile as a dancer and to grow by studying the contemporary and neo-classical repertoire. She loves the work of William Forsythe because of the inherent dynamics and energy and admires in particular his ballet ‘Playlist’.

Her dream would be realised if she were able to join a European ballet company as a professional and hopes one day to work with choreographer Juliano Nunes.
