Mattia Serra

Mattia is Italian-born and hails from Rome. He started dancing rather late – aged 10, but showed obvious talent because he was accepted at the ‘Pôle National Supérieur de Danse Rosella Hightower’ in Cannes, a most prestigious school at 15. After only three years of study he was ready to further his career. He went on to spend two years with The Bridge Pigato Contemporary in Thiene, Vicenza.

Mattia: “I learnt about JBA while participating in a dance competition in Ferrara, Italy last year. The variety of the training program and the excellence of the teachers and coaches seemed the perfect way for me to continue my studies. I hope to improve my neo-classical technique at JBA and to become more expressive as a dancer with the freedom to experiment in many different styles.”

In the near future he dreams of dancing with Compañia Nacional de Danza in Spain or Complexions Contemporary Ballet in America, both companies he greatly admires.

Alongside the list of choreographers he desires to work with someday is JBA Artistic Patron David Dawson, who’s choreographic work strikes many chords in Mattia. In particular ‘Under the Trees’ Voices’ set to music by Ezio Bosso and performed by the Stuttgart Ballett in 2024. He loves it for  ‘the powerful narrative of life, of love and pain’ – illustrating ‘a force within ourselves which supports us though the dark side of life’.

Aside from dance, Mattia loves spending time with his family and friends, to go biking or for long walks in the mountain paths near his home.
