PHOEBE WATSON
Phoebe has at a young age already had a well-traveled life; born in Canada, her family moved to New Zealand when she was young. There she started dancing and at 16 moved to Australia to commence full-time training at the Tanya Pearson Academy. From here she was accepted into the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. During those two years she was a guest dancer with the Scottish Ballet where she danced their version of Cinderella – ‘Cinders’ and David Dawson’s ‘Swan Lake’.
Phoebe: “I have always held Junior Ballet Antwerp in high regard. I see it as one of the leading junior ballet companies in Europe as I believe it is a highly selective and elite platform for dancers on the verge of entering the professional industry. Aside, JBA replicates the intense performance schedule of a professional company.”
Phoebe hopes to learn to pick up new choreography quickly, to work in a group and to improve her artistry and technical articulation. Her favourite choreographers are David Dawson and William Forsythe, both of whom she realises have changed and renewed classical ballet. Having experienced Dawson’s ‘Swan Lake’ she truly appreciates the challenges he poses as well as the joy derived from dancing his work. She hopes one day to join a classical/neo-classical company which offers this kind of repertoire.
Phoebe’s other hobbies derive from her dance interests; cross-training and nutrition!
