Lily Tyranowicz

Lily was born and grew up in France. It was in her home country when, at the age of 6, she started to learn ballet after being carried away by the movie ‘Ballerina’.

She later trained professionally both in Reims and later at the National Dance School of Marseille where she first encountered and started training in contemporary dance.

Lily: “I was looking for a junior company which would help me diversify in different styles of dance. This I found at JBA; what impressed me in particular was how, during the audition, very personal and thoughtful guidance was given to each candidate. I felt that this guidance would help me develop as a dancer. Here, I hope to move beyond mere technique and to build my artistic identity as well as to gain more confidence and freedom in my dancing.”

Lily admires Dutch National Ballet and New York City Ballet but dreams of joining Ballett am Rhein because of its very high standard and very eclectic repertoire.

She is enthralled by the choreographic style of JBA’s artistic patron, David Dawson and hopes to learn more of his work at JBA.

As for her favorite ballets (apart from those of the great George Balanchine) she loves Jerome Robbin’s ballet ‘In the Night’ for the way the dance moves beyond mere technique in order to tell a story through movement.

Aside from dance and spending time with her family, Lily has always loved – and still does – building with lego!
