Mila Thys
One of our Belgian contingent, Mila at 17 is our youngest new recruit. She started dancing at the age of 4 at her local ballet school not far from her birthplace Leuven and went on to train professionally at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp. During her time in Antwerp she followed JBA from its initial launch, attending many performances along the way.
Mila: “What enticed me was the extensive and varied repertoire of JBA and I saw that many choreographers actually create for the company. I am certain that this training will help me to become a stronger and more versatile dancer. Also as I am still young, i don’t feel ready to enter the professional field and the JBA training, personal coaching and audition guidance will benefit me greatly.”
Mila hopes in the future to join a company which performs classical, neo-classical as well as contemporary works. During her graduation year at te RBoA she had the opportunity to learn and perform both a classical ballet (The Nutcracker) and a work by the avant-garde dance maker Marco Goecke. She enjoyed both equally and sees Dutch National Ballet as her dream company.
In her hometown Mila teaches dance to young pupils at her local ballet school which gives her great pleasure sharing her passion and helping them discover the joy of dance.
