Sora Ikeda

Sora Ikeda is Japanese and hails from Tokyo. She started dancing at her local dance school when only 6 yrs young and moved to England at 16 in order to train professionally at the English National Ballet School where she studied for 3 yrs.

Sora: “even before the audition, I was interested in the JBA program because of the all-round training and my desire to join grew significantly during the audition itself. The atmosphere created by the teachers and their commitment to helping candidates was very encouraging: that together with the repertoire we experienced led me to believe that this is a place where I could grow as a dancer and also as an artist.”

Sora hopes one day to join The National Ballet of Canada or The Czech National Ballet but before that she looks forward to her time in Antwerp, to developing her technique and discovering her artistic self, performing diverse repertoire and learning from her new colleagues. 

Her favorite ballets are ‘Symphony in C’ by George Balanchine because of its crystal clear musicality and ‘Errand into the Maze’ by Martha Graham, a work which demonstrates how a wide range of choreography and emotion can be created through a single movement, breathing.

Outside of the ballet studio Sora is interested in the field of notation, a complex study of the manner of writing dance. 

And when not dancing or studying, she loves to read, bike & watch movies.
